On Monday, September 18, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee in partnership with the Knoxville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association is observing Constitution Day by sponsoring the third annual public reading of the United States Constitution.
The reading will take place from 11:30 a.m. to approximately 1:00 p.m. in the courtyard of the Howard H. Baker Jr. U.S. Courthouse at 800 Market Street.
The public and members of the bar are invited to join employees of the court and employees of other government agencies in the federal courthouse in reading the Constitution in segments of one-minute or less. Those who want to read may register to do so at the Court's civics website, www.connections.tned.uscourts.gov.
Registration in advance is preferred but not required. "You may arrive at any time during this celebratory event to read a passage from the Constitution, as long as passages remain available," according to U.S. District Judge Katherine A. Crytzer, who is the chair of the Knoxville Court Division's Civics Education and Outreach Committee.
In case of rain, the event will take place in the courthouse breezeway adjacent to the courtyard.
